Irrigation Devices: Typically an irrigation backflow preventer is located outside of the home or business to make testing as easy as possible. Some devices are located inside if requested by the customer.
Why is annual testing required?
State laws require that a test be completed every year to ensure that the backflow preventer is functioning properly and that no contamination to your drinking water is occurring.
Any water that passes through the backflow preventer will be kept in the proper place and not be brought back into the domestic line.
Backflow preventer located inside the location? If the backflow preventer is located inside, someone over the age of 18 needs to be on location at the time of the appointment for the test to be completed. Backflow testing can be done any time of the year. Please be aware of your annual retesting date.
Does the water need to be turned off? Yes, the main water supply does have to be turned off for a brief period to do the testing. Usually just a few minutes of shutoff is necessary to perform the test.
What if repair is needed? Minor repairs can be done at the time of the testing. Any extensive repair work will be scheduled and the testing can be preformed after repairs are made.
